Social startup KIMUSTUDIO (CEO Nam Jangwon), dedicated to breaking barriers through collaborations with 'Special Designers,' will hold a solo exhibition, <KIMU:SEUM in New York>, at the KATE OH Gallery on November 4-5. Marking KIMUSTUDIO’s second solo exhibition in New York, this event uniquely combines artistic expression with social value, offering visitors a meaningful experience.
The exhibition will feature original works alongside collaborations with artists from AHRC NYC, a leading organization supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, and Re'Generation Movement, a nonprofit that empowers refugees and immigrants to become peacemakers through various educational programs, including global citizenship education. These artworks, crafted by artists of diverse backgrounds and stories, embody diversity and inclusion, demonstrating art’s ability to transcend boundaries and forge human connections.
All of KIMUSTUDIO’s artworks are limited editions, with just 450 copies per piece, positioning them as valuable collectibles. These unique designs, paired with powerful messages, resonate with collectors globally.
Founded in 2018, KIMUSTUDIO is a Korean art company dedicated to discovering and nurturing artists with developmental disabilities, helping them evolve as professional artists. The studio collaborates with both local and international artists, creating works with social impact. It also runs KIMU Bridge, a job-matching program supporting artists with developmental disabilities to find employment as designers, ensuring that art offers both creative and career pathways.
KIMUSTUDIO has partnered with major corporations, including Samsung, Ferrero Rocher, and Amorepacific, leading ESG initiatives. Recognized for its commitment to diversity and inclusion, it has hosted exhibitions in Seoul, Paris, and Singapore.
For this exhibition, KIMUSTUDIO partnered with AHRC NYC, Re’Generation Movement, Peter An, and Junwon Seo. AHRC NYC, with 75 years of advocacy, serves over 15,000 individuals across New York’s five boroughs, promoting equality for people with developmental disabilities. Re'Generation Movement, based in Atlanta, is a nonprofit organization that provides refugees and immigrants with opportunities to build better lives through education, helping them discover their identities as global leaders and global citizens. Aewa Shee, a student of the Regeneration Movement, and Dee Da, both originally from Myanmar, have resettled in Georgia, after spending time in Thailand. Each of them, whether pursuing college education or working, is dedicated to making a positive impact on the world through art.
Featured artists include Peter An, known for intricate patterns and dinosaur-themed works, and Junwon Seo, a founding member of KIMUSTUDIO, whose distinctive pieces embody the studio’s inclusive vision.
Following the <KIMU:SEUM> preview in Singapore this October, KIMUSTUDIO continues expanding its global presence with initiatives like ‘KIMU New York,’ ‘KIMU Paris,’ and ‘KIMU Tokyo.’ Through exhibitions like <KIMU:SEUM in New York>, the studio aims to become a significant voice in the global art scene.
Nam Jangwon, CEO of KIMUSTUDIO, shared his hopes: “We hope visitors will be inspired by the artworks created through diverse collaborations. <KIMU:SEUM in New York> is a unique opportunity to experience KIMUSTUDIO’s vision of delivering social value through art and witness the power of global artistic collaboration.”
KIMU:SEUM in New York invites attendees to explore the synergy between KIMUSTUDIO’s vision and the creativity of international artists, marking a meaningful milestone in spreading messages of art and inclusion worldwide.
